The Park
Sandy Balls is an award winning Holiday Park with accommodation ranging from forest lodges to caravan homes to ready tents. The wide range of first class facilities cater for the needs of the most discerning holiday guests, from families enjoying week long holidays to couples getting away for a short break.

The Challenge
Sandy balls had a wide variety of needs, so finding one solution to fit all the requirements was always going to be challenging. A system was needed to perform lots of different tasks, from making holiday reservations in the booking office, to hiring cycles out in the cycle centre, to buying souvenirs in the gift shop, to ordering food & drink in the bistro.

The Solution
The solution was to install J2 point of sale units. J2 520s and J2 580s were used because they have been specifically designed for the hospitality industry and could be configured to suit the individual needs of each department.

In guest services the J2 point of sale unit is set up to run remote desktop sessions of the bookings system as well as sell attraction tickets and gift shop items... it even runs as a server for the internet cafe!

In the cycle centre they run email & point of sale for their busy shop, including scanning of sale items with barcode readers.

In the Bistro & Woodside bar they are used to book tables, order food & drink, send order tickets to the kitchen for preperation and even run a tab for orders.

The Results and Benefits

The initial set up was a huge success and with the J2 units in place the needs of the different departments are not limited to the hardware - the hardware can grow with them.

Because of the success, there are plans to implement full stock control, stock-counting and reordering and integrate a scanning device...The J2 units are more than capable & willing.

Plus, reliable touch screens means no down time and because they can be used with Microsoft Office products they double up as a workstation so you don't need two PC's - lowering your total cost of ownership and saving you money!
